Purpose: The Senior Software Development Engineer researches, designs and develops software systems to meet with clients requirements. Leads projects, handles management inquiries and guides less experienced staff. Once the system has been fully designed instructs software engineers on testing, debugging, and maintaining the systems. Oversees various projects of an advanced nature requiring full use and application of advanced engineering or scientific methods and tools.

Purpose: Responsible for software development efforts including for the business unit. Participate with the Software Development team in activities such as Customer Audits, Record keeping, Software Development, both manual and automated, Bug Reporting and Tracking, and overall recommendations for Software Quality Improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Gives engineering guidance to multiple projects affecting one or many businesses. Reviews significant issues with other departments and functions. Educates and mentors others on new technology development and its potential application to PerkinElmer businesses.
  • Illustrates top-level problem solving and data synthesis approaches. Generates, evaluates, selects and implements solutions which are equal to the industry's state of the art and which may not have prior application.
  • Provides guidance to section/functional leader on technical training and development requirements.
  • Authors engineering guidelines that define opportunities & risks with new technologies in products, tools and processes. Improves technical processes, either independently or through cross functional teams. Applies and develops advanced methodologies and technologies requiring a high degree of technical innovation.
  • Internal expert on understanding customer needs for a particular product line. Interacts with customers, subcontractors and functional personnel on projects and proposals. Required to present, interpret and recommend the results of work performed in developments such as new broad technical approaches. Acts as an advocate to adopt these advances and to alter programs or redirect technical approaches.





Qualifications/Education/Technical Skills:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Software Development Engineering required with 12 - 19 years experience in Software Development Engineering of R&D projects in a high technology environment. 10 -17 years with a MA/MS.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment, working on multiple projects with constantly changing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong C# and WPF skills
  • Experience with C++/MFC
  • Experience with agile processes is an asset
  • Experience with InstallShield development is an asset
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent team orientation

Travel Requirements
  • Minimal travel required.
